John was born in 1825 in Steelands, Grindleton, Yorkshire.

He was christened on Sunday 20 March 1825 at Waddington, Yorkshire.

John married Margaret Slinger on Thursday 16 May 1850 in St Andrew's Church, Slaidburn, Yorkshire.
The witnesses at the marriage were William Slinger (Margaret's brother) and Thirston Frankland.
John was about 25 years old and Margaret was about 17 years old when they married.

John died when he was 89 years old, in 1914 in the Clitheroe Registration District, Lancashire.  

He was buried on Tuesday 4 August 1914 in Slaidburn, Yorkshire.

He was buried on the day that World War I was declared.    Also, it is thought that he may be buried in an unmarked grave (see Note 14).

A newspaper article describing the Golden Wedding celebrations can be seen on the Documents page (see 'Documents' link above).    It describes that John Frankland was born at Steelands in Grindleton, and that at the age of 4 years he was taken by an aunt, Mrs Turner of Bridge House, Dale Head, with whom he lived for many years.
