George Chew was the son of Thomas Riley Chew and Alice Thornber.

George was born on Saturday 3 July 1858 in Poultry House, Horton in Gisburn, Yorkshire.

He was christened on Sunday 8 August 1858 at Henhouse, Horton, near Gisburn, Yorkshire.

George married Elizabeth Ann Frankland on Thursday 11 May 1882 in the Independent Chapel, Oak Street, Accrington, Lancashire.
The witnesses at the marriage were Henry Frankland (Elizabeth's brother) and Hannah Frankland (Elizabeth's sister-in-law).
George was 23 years old and Elizabeth was 22 years old when they married.
