Richard was born around 1851 in Tosside, Yorkshire.

Richard married Jane Elizabeth Robinson on Thursday 12 February 1874 in the Parish Church, Bolton by Bowland, Yorkshire.
The witnesses at the marriage were Richard Taylor and Mary Ann Robinson.

He had the following children from his marriage to Jane Elizabeth Robinson:

- Henry Porter Turner	born around 1876 in Waddington, Yorkshire.
