Robert married Elizabeth Charnley

He had the following children from his marriage to Elizabeth Charnley:

- Robert William Dolphin	born around 1866 in Mitton Parish, Lancashire.
- Edward Dolphin	born around 1868 in Chaigley, Lancashire.
- Alice Dolphin	born around 1871 in Mitton Parish, Lancashire.
- Elizabeth Dolphin	born around 1874 in Chaigley, Lancashire.
- Mary Jane Dolphin	born around 1876 in Mitton Parish, Lancashire.

Robert was a Wheelwright.

Robert died when he was about 45 years old, in 1880.  

He was buried in 1880 in St Peter and St Paul RC Cemetery, Ribchester, Lancashire.
