James Greenhough was the son of Charles Greenhough and Rosanna Hunt.

James was born on Thursday 5 September 1867 in Derby, Derbyshire.

James married Florence Johnson in 1890 in Barrow.

He had the following children from his marriage to Florence Johnson:

- Charlotte Lilian Greenhough	born in 1891 in Belgrave, Leicestershire.
- Rose Lilian Greenhough	born in 1892 in Belgrave, Leicestershire.
- Mabel May Greenhough	born in 1894 at Leicester, Leicestershire.
- Maud Greenhough	born in 1899 at Leicester, Leicestershire.

James was an Iron rivetter.

James died when he was 79 years old, in 1946 in Leicester, Leicestershire.
