William was born around 1812 in Lunterstone, Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

William married Jane Cundall on Thursday 26 April 1838 in Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

He was buried on Friday 14 October 1887 in St Peters Church, Dallowgill, Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire (Plot 17).

His gravestone has the following inscription:
