Joseph Cundall was the son of and Ann Cundall.

Joseph was born on Saturday 12 January 1861 in Dallowgill, Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

He took up the surname of King as he was brought up as part of John King and Ann Cundall's family.

Joseph married Amy Guest in 1888 in the Great Ouseburn Registration District (Dec. quarter).

He had the following children from his marriage to Amy Guest:

- John William H. G. King	born in 1890 at Tankersley, near Barnsley, Yorkshire.
- Edith King	born around 1892 at Elsecar, Yorkshire.
- Frances Guest King	born on 14 February 1894 at Elsecar, Yorkshire.
- Nellie King	born around 1896 in Dallowgill, Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.
- Lily King	born around 1898 in Dallowgill, Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.
- Elsie King	born around 1905 at Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Joseph was a Coal Miner, Contractor's Carter, Furniture Remover.
