Thomas Riley Chew was the son of Henry John (Harry) Chew and Margaret McBain.

Thomas was born on Sunday 30 October 1864 in Gisburn, Yorkshire.

Thomas married Eleanor Perkin in 1887 in the Blackburn Registration District (Sep Quarter).

He had the following children from his marriage to Eleanor Perkin:
