William S. Wood was the son of Richard Wood and Isabella Slinger.

William was born in 1862 in Brocklehurst, West Bradford, Yorkshire.

William married Mary Slinger Hepple on Wednesday 20 April 1892 in Clitheroe, Lancashire.

He had the following children from his marriage to Mary Slinger Hepple:

- Gertrude Hepple Wood	born in 1896 in Whalley, Lancashire.
- William Arthur Wood	born in 1897 in Wiswell, near Whalley, Lancashire.
