Simon Chew was the son of Henry John (Harry) Chew and Elizabeth Law.

Simon was born on Sunday 26 February 1888 in Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Simon married Mabel Agnes Seed in 1912 in the Clitheroe Registration District (Sep Quarter).

He had the following children from his marriage to Mabel Agnes Seed:

- Stanley Chew	born on 3 June 1914.
- Riley Chew	born in 1915.
- Norman Chew	born in 1921.
