Richard Slinger was the son of Ambrose Slinger and Elizabeth (Betty) Guy.

Richard was born around 1824 in Cocklick End, Easington, Yorkshire.

He was christened on Sunday 22 February 1824 at St Andrew's Church, Slaidburn, Yorkshire.

Richard married Millicent Sarah Walton in 1853 in the Skipton Registration District (Sep Qtr).

He had the following children from his marriage to Millicent Sarah Walton:

- Elizabeth Ann Slinger	born on 6 June 1856.
- Mary Jane Slinger	born around 1859 in Butterworth, Rochdale, Lancashire.

- Elizabeth Slinger	born around 1868 in Butterworth, Rochdale, Lancashire.
