Richard Dobby was the son of John Dobby and Diana Tanfield.

Richard was born around 1860 in Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

He was christened on Tuesday 14 August 1860 at Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Richard married Hannah Gell in the Middlesborough Registration District (Mar. quarter).
