Barry John Daley (or Daly) had gone to Canada with his family around 1912. He was one of the first to join the Canadian Army in August 1914. He was wounded at the Battle of the Somme in October 1916. Whilst recovering from his wounds he found his way up to visit relatives in Leeds and took up with his former sweetheart Elsie Ibbetson, married her, and in time Elsie Margaret Daley was born.
