David Chew was the son of James Chew and Elizabeth Barnfather.

David was born around 1843 in Smallbridge, Rochdale, Lancashire.

He was christened on Wednesday 17 April 1844 at Gisburn, Yorkshire.

David married Angelina Watson in 1867 in the Rochdale Registration District.
