James Tom Phillips was the son of James Phillips and Amy Emma L Taylor.

James was born on Thursday 3 December 1874 in Birmingham, Warwickshire.

James married Amy Florence Turnor on Sunday 11 June 1905 in St Peter's Church, Birmingham, Warwickshire.

He had the following children from his marriage to Amy Florence Turnor:

- Hilda Beatrice Phillips	born on 11 December 1906 in Birmingham, Warwickshire.
- Annie Eva (Nancy) Phillips	born on 1 November 1908 in Birmingham, Warwickshire.

James was a Postman.

James died when he was 82 years old, on Wednesday 22 May 1957.
